Business:
It wouldn't be a club if we didn't have a business portion of
the meeting. All attempts are made to keep this as short and as
brief as possible. Then we can get to the really interesting
things.
Programs:
Each meeting is highlighted with a program presented by one of
our members. Since we only hold 6 meetings a year, none of
our members have had to repeat giving a program yet. Members
volunteer for their month to present a program at the January
meeting. In the past, programs have included:
- Beginning Intarsia
- 3D cutting
- Tips and Tricks
- Alternative Materials
- Cutting Puzzles
It is not necessary for the member who volunteered to
personally give the program. They volunteer to supply the program,
whether it is done by them or whether they find some other
individual to come to the meeting and present the program. So even
if you are not comfortable speaking in front of a group, you CAN
provide a program.
Show and Tell:
Each meeting also has a "Show and Tell" session. Projects are
brought to the meeting and are presented by the member who brought
it. This can be a short "bragging" session, and it has also been
used to get advice on a particular problem that a member might be
having. The discussion is always interesting as other methods are
discussed and brainstorming occurs to solve a particular problem.
Christmas Ornaments:
Each member is asked to bring two Christmas ornaments to each
meeting. These ornaments
are collected and donated to a church or charity in November. In
this way we can give back to the community and help some very
worthy causes. It also gives a very good feeling to know that you
are helping in some tangible way to make the holidays better for
some very deserving people.
Group Project:
Several of our members have never done one of the more
intricate clock patterns, so this project was designed to give
them the opportunity to do just that.
We hope to eventually do one of the really large clocks out
there. At this time wood for the project has been donated. The
finished clock will either be donated to a charity or we will hold
a raffle amongst our members to find the final home for this
project.
